Below here you can find information which will come in handy when you want to visit the region around Peñiscola. Such as information about the weather during different times of the year, prices of hotels and flight connections.

The weather

Winter

From December until February the weather is usually alright. The sun is often around and is a lot more powerful than in more northern European countries. The shortest day of the year is about 1,5 hour longer compared to places like the UK, Poland and The Netherlands. Most of the days are nice enough to spend outside, but cloudy or windy days can feel cold. Nights are cold and at the end of the day you can already feel that the temperature starts dropping.

Spring

In March the temperatures noticeably starts rising again. At the start of spring the evenings and nights can still be chilly, but they quickly get better in April and May. Talking about May, it doesn’t belong here, it’s basically a summer month. In April there is a slightly bigger chance of cloudy days, but hey with over 4 out of 5 days with sun, we can’t complain.

Summer

June until September are true summer months. You can expect the type of weather that Spain is known for in the colder parts of Europe. The days are warm and dry, except when in the pool or excessively sweating, and the only difference at night is that the sun isn’t shining anymore. It doesn’t often get as crazy hot as in the interior parts of Spain or the Eastern part of the Mediterranean, so you can still get some shut-eye.

Autumn

The warmest days have passed, so now it’s time for some more warm days!! Just like May, October often feels like summer. Days in November can still be nice, but nights are getting chilly again. It doesn’t happen every year, but in autumn there is a chance of a short period with heavy rains. This happens most often in October or November, but has also happened in September and even at the end of August in the past. It usually lasts only a few days and is called Gota Fría.

Sunshine

The region has over 300 days of sun per year. On average there is around 5,5 hours of sun per day in winter and up to 10 hours per day in summer. So pack some lotion!

Tips

  1. Eat like a Spaniard. Eating your main meal between 13:00 and 15:30 saves you a pretty penny. At these times restaurants offer a Menú del Día, a three-course meal, which is usually about 10-15 euro per person. Of course the more luxurious restaurants, or those at an amazing location, charge a bit more, but it will always save you some money compared to the regular menu.
  2. When travelling by car you can save some money on the toll roads by using the road next to it. So that means using the N-340 instead of the AP-7. The speed limit on the N-340 is 90 km/h, but goes down near towns or crossings.
  3. To find the best flight we advise using a travel search engine such as: Google Flights, Kayak, Momundo or Skyscanner.
